My Superhero Body – Week Zero

Hello, dear readers! It’s Week Zero of my journey to a Superhero Body, and I’m glad you’re here.

In case you missed it, check out last week’s post, My Superhero Body – Getting Started.

What is Week Zero?

That’s a fantastic question! Thank you for asking!

Week Zero is when I set my starting point. Even thought I’ve already started making some improvements in my life, this is where I set the baseline. You get a weigh-in, pictures, and my action plan for this week.

Next week, of course, will be Week 1, and you’ll get the following amazing prizes:

  • My weigh-in
  • Pictures
  • My action plan for the week
  • A post mortem on the previous week

What’s the weekly post mortem all about, you ask? My goodness, dear reader, you do ask the most insightful questions!

The weekly post mortem is an autopsy on the previous week. Where did I succeed? Where did I fail? What am I doing about the strange, new pain in my [Insert Body Part]? What do I need to do differently next week?

Weekly Weigh-In

I’ve put it off long enough…

I bought a nifty scale that measures my weight, body fat, body water, and bone mass and calculates BMI. The numbers I’ll be concerning myself with are weight and body fat percentage.

On May 22, 2017:

  • I weigh 305.4 pounds
  • My body fat is 38.7%
  • That means 118.2 pounds of me is fat

That’s… um… That’s a lot of fat. I have to say, seeing that number on its own is some serious motivation.

WARNING!

There’s a half-naked fat dude if you keep scrolling!

I did warn you.

I’m really looking forward to doing a “Before and After” someday.

The Plan

Overall, I’m going to attempt the most basic of weight loss methods:

Eat Less. Move More.

Eat Less. Move More. 'Member MadTV?
Eat Less. Move More.
‘Member MadTV?

Eat Less

If there’s one thing I’m good at, it isn’t portion control.

This little big wooden boy needs a Jiminy Cricket, and that’s where having a supportive partner comes in. Every time I’m sitting down to a meal, I give a little whistle and let Mrs. Gryphon be my guide.

And always let your conscience be your guide!
And always let your conscience be your guide!

When she’s not around, I’ll be asking myself, “What Would Mrs. Gryphon Do?”

I really, really need to work on my WWMGD. Like, maybe I need a bracelet or something to remind me, because if I’m left to my own devices, even for a few hours while running errands, I get in trouble.

Seriously.

Last week, I was running some errands, and the next thing I knew I was parked in a back alley, full of tacos and shame.

We’re also going to focus on adding vegetables this week. Not so many vegetables in my box dinners, so I’ll be availing myself of the wide variety of “Steam in Bag” veggies at my local supermarket.

Move More

This week, my plan is to redo Week One of Zombies, Run! 5k. I did week one of the app last week, but I know from experience that the training app ramps up faster than I can keep up, so I’m planning to redo each of the first few weeks of the program to build up my stamina a bit more before I move on.

Hopefully, I won’t get a few weeks in and poop out like I did two years ago when I tried this app before. I think the fact that I’m focusing on healthier eating and drinking more water is bound to help me this time!

I’ll also be doing a series of short upper body workouts at all hours of the day and night using an 8 pound Wiggle Weight, by which I mean I’ll be hefting my son around.

Well, dear reader, that about wraps it up for this week.

Until my next weight-in,

Mr. Gryphon

  1. We’re rooting for you!! Let us know how we can support you. I have some good diet plans that won’t leave you hungry too!

  2. You’ve got this. I’m debating doing something similar, but UC makes it not so easy to eat my veggies… but there is supposedly a supplement that can help with my digestion of said veggies so I don’t end up in the hospital again (like I did last time I tried this).

Portion control is a terrible form of human torture…. and I love tacos too. We’ve been peas in a pod since the day we met. Oh gods. It’s been nearly 15 years hasn’t it?! Now, we can be weight loss buddies!!! I have 80 lbs to go before I’m ready to start filming my show. We can do it!

And btw, babies are an amazing piece of exercise equipment.
